Queen Sirikit Park

In August 1992 the Queen Sirikit Park was established. The park covers an area of 120,000 square meters. The Queen Sirikit Park is also home to more than 2,000 species of local and foreign plants. There are also a number of other attractions in the park amid its lush trees and beautiful landscape. The park is large and has a map which shows you the layout of the park. It is open daily from 5am-8pm. The park is very popular with both locals and expats in Thailand.

History

In the year 1991, a resolution was passed by the cabinet with the intention of establishing Queen Sirikit Park. This park was envisioned to be a place of celebration on the Auspicious Occasion of Queen Sirikit’s 5th Cycle (60 years) Birthday anniversary, scheduled for the 12th of August, 1992. To oversee the realization of this project, the cabinet entrusted the Ministry of Transport with the responsibility of constructing this park. The chosen location for the park’s development was within the vicinity of the State Railway of Thailand. More specifically, this area was situated to the south of the railway’s golf course.

Design

The design of this park held a resemblance to Thailand’s geographical map, an intriguing feature noted in the project’s execution. Initially, the area allocated for the first phase of the project encompassed 140 rai (0.224 km2). Notably, the second phase is expected to expand the park’s territory by an additional 60 rai (0.092 km2), a development that is anticipated in the future. Within this expansive area, several amenities were envisioned to cater to various interests. A leisure park for weekend relaxation, a fitness area to promote physical exercise, and a splendid botanical garden boasting a diverse array of over 2,000 species of both local and foreign plants were part of the grand vision.

The financial resources for the construction of the park were derived from multiple sources, including the government, State enterprises operating under the Ministry of Commerce, and contributions from the private sector. Notably, the maintenance of the extensive garden would be overseen by the Foundation of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, particularly focusing on the long pathways and upkeep.
