Wat Yannawa

Bangkok NightlifeThe Wat Yannawa is a well-known and popular temple in Thailand for both expats and locals alike. The temple is located close to the BTS Saphan Taksin Station in Bangkok and can be accessed by BTS or by the river boat ferry.

Wat Yannawa

There are many temples in Thailand however this one is a Buddhist Temple at Sathon. Likewise it is shaped like a Chinese junk when it was built by King Rama III during the Ayutthaya period (1350-1767 AD) in Thailand. The temple is a few minutes walk South of The BTS Taksin Bridge Skytrain (exit to Charoen Krung Road then turn right).

Wat Yannawa encompasses both a main area of the Thai temple and a smaller section dedicated to the Chinese temple. While you are welcome to enter the grounds and explore, it may not provide the most pleasant atmosphere. However, a short walk to the nearby pier allows you to admire the picturesque river view while feeding the fish.

Visitors Views

One of the notable features of Wat Yannawa is the boat-like structure that houses a shrine and two small pagodas. It offers a unique opportunity to gain an elevated view of the entire temple complex. It’s worth mentioning that there is ongoing construction or renovation work on one of the temple buildings, which is currently cordoned off, along with the building nearest to the river. After your visit to the temple, take a stroll down to the riverfront pavilion for breathtaking views. The sight of hundreds of large fish swirling in the water creates a captivating spectacle. Likewise also see the Wat Suan Plu across the road. Likewise also see Wat Saket as well as Wat Suthat Thepwararam on here.

Wat Yannawa stands apart from other temples due to its distinctive collection of statues representing various religions. The boat-shaped temple itself is a remarkable sight to behold. If your attire is not modest enough, don’t worry, as they offer sarongs free of charge for visitors to use. Personally, one of my favorite activities at this temple was feeding the fish in the river. There are conveniently located machines where you can purchase fish food for as little as 10 Baht. It’s always a joy to visit this magnificent pagoda in Bangkok.

The temple holds great significance as it houses numerous Buddha relics and showcases its own unique architectural style. Whenever I come here, I feel a profound sense of peace, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the serene environment while offering prayers for harmony and tranquility.
